Talk about this Meetup

I think those people that come to IBD meetups expecting a thesis on the functions of markets and investing should pay $3000 and seek one of those seminars. I APPRECIATE guys like Burns and Morales take the time to come and impart some of their knowledge and experience to us. I know that some are selling something-but I appreciate their effort.

Who attended?

  • 183 attendees
    •  The speaker was quite personable and entertaining. Very enjoyable to listen to. However, he contradicted himself a number of times, particularly in his comments about gold (you shouldn't buy it, but he personally owns it - do as I say, not as I do). He also is apparently successful based on proprietary research that he had no intention of sharing with the audience. There was NO content in this talk that could not be obtained from the most elementary sources on investing. Renaming a double top (which has been known as a negative chart fomation since the day after the first stock market opened) a POD, may be a clever marketing gimmick, but it does nothing to increase an investor's returns.
    •  The speaker was obviously a believer of his methodology and it was refreshing to see a different philosophy. On top of that, he was also a very casual and very attentive to questions asked by each individual.
    •  Interesting perspectives presented
    •  The presentation was informative but dry.
    •  Bring in guys like that Gil Morales more often!
    •  Gil Morales was the speaker. His accomplishments as an investor are amazing, and he has a knack for teaching investing principles. The knowledge is sophisticated, but easy to understand and use. I have tried a lot of advisors, and he is by far the best. Everyone else is bringing up the rear. As you can imagine, since I am so enamored of Gil, I thought the meetup was as good as it could be. Thanks to the organizers for getting such an outstanding speaker.
    •  Besides being a remarkable stock trader, Gil Morales is a great presenter who gave me plenty of interesting things to think about. Particularly interesting: His opinion that Bill O'Neil is the greatest investor ever. Which could well be true.
    •  Presentation was a 6 out of 10. I can see that the presenter is a seasoned and smart guy but he was speaking to a pretty low quality group of attendees. He mostly spoke about chart patterns (not good). The attendees were a 1-2 out of 10. Bored retirees with nothing to do so they chose to trade the markets, and other part-timers. I loved the comment by one lady when Gil Morales was discussing the expansion of the solar panel business in Spain. She interupted him to say "it's because they have so much sunshine there" - GROAN....

I always find it interesting and come away with some investiong ideas.
    •  Gil Morales is a fine speaker and offered a number of good investing tips.
    •  Fantastic. The best yet, the best ever. Gil cannot be beat.
    •  Content and presentation by Mr Morales was EXCELLENT. Q&A session that followed was also very good but unfortunately the speaker responded to all the questions while standing away from the microphone. The questions being asked could not be heard at all (questions should have been repeated by the speaker using the sound system for everyone's benefit). Suggestion: How about clipping a mike on the speaker for future events for a steady and uniform audio level.

It was a pleasure to hear Gil Morales speak. Having read and re-studied his book many times it was fantatsic to hear , in person, his view of chart analysis. I think he presented many tips for the more experienced canslim trader. He has a great sense of humor, great knowledge of the subject and did a great job answering the many questions the audience had for him. We should get him back again ...soon!
    •  Superb presenter, well organized, talked from experience and was willing to share both his mistakes and winning strategies.
