March 25th meeting will feature a tour of the U.T. McCombs School of Business, EDS Technology and Trading Center. We'll have a tour of the center for about an hour and then adjourn to the Cactus for refreshments (alcohol is a possibility). Sorry about the time, as I know many will be at work, but this was the latest we could schedule for this time. This is the week after spring break. For parking the Brazos garage (MLK & Brazos) or Dobie Center parking might be OK. Entrance on 21st St just west of Speedway. For a map, look up McCombs School of Business on Google Maps. Future meetings at APl History Center on Guadalupe: Apr 22, May 20, Jun 24, Jul 22, Aug 26, Sep 16, Oct 28.

For the Feb. meeting, we will look at some stocks that have been surviving the worst of the sell-offs. Many of these are featured in the IBD TV and other resources.

New Year. New President and cabinet. Old problems. How do you think the market will respond? Will we go up? Will we go down? If your retirement has been reset for another 10 to 20 years, don't feel like you did anything wrong. Very, very few people saw it coming and took the appropriate action. We love to be bullish on America and its markets. "We're in it for the long haul...; just sit tight...; don't look!...". Pretty lame advice, huh? Well, that depends on your age to a great extent. The IBD Meetup looks for stocks that can be bought when the market is in an uptrend. When that will be is anybody's guess. We have tools to find those stocks, but what do we do in the meantime? We keep watching the IBD TV and racking up our watch lists, noting patterns and buy points. This month we wrap up January as we look at ways to "short" the market, to take advantage of moves down and protect our capital from being gutted by the bear markets. In Feb., we will arrange a tour/meeting at the UT McCombs School of Business and its Finance Department which features the EDS Center for Trading and Technology which is going to be renovated this summer. The IBD programs originally announced for January will be likely held in March. Join us at the Austin Public Library, Carver Branch on Jan 28th.

Review the IBD resources with us this month. Ted from IBD gave us some really good examples of how to use the IBD to build the watch list for the winning stocks that will emerge from this global financial mess. If your IRA and 401K accounts were not in cash or bonds, you're probably taking a beating. Now it's time to go to school and get ready to take charge and make that long-haul money back! We have IBD's Attention: Advance notice on workshops. IBD Level I Workshop will be in Austin in March; Dallas Houston in Feb. IBD Level II Workshop in Dallas - April. January will have national speakers in again for our meetups. I have arranged some attractive IBD discounts for our members for workshops and subscriptions.
