Meetup Groups meet face-to-face to pursue hobbies, network, get support, make friends, find playgroups or even change the world.
Get on the Internet to get off the Internet!
You'll get invited to our Meetups as soon as they're scheduled!
This will be a free-form discussion on the stock market and individual stocks. WHAT TO BRING: Since we do not have a central topic or presentation, please come prepared to share at least one "tip" with the rest of the group. For example, these are good tips:
- Recommend a stock you've recently discovered.
- ASK QUESTIONS - If you are new to stocks, your questions can be a good topic of conversation.
- Share something you know about a specific industry or business.
- Point out an under-reported piece of news affecting a stock or industry.
- Talk about an article or book you've read.
- Comment on any cool investment websites, tools, and services you've been using.
- Discuss your good or bad experiences with CANSLIM, Value Investing, GARP, or any other investment strategies and techniques.
- Etc. Anything interesting related to stocks.
Your tip is not a formal presentation. It is just a conversation starter. Just be ready to answer if someone asks you, "so, what is your stock related tip for tonight?".
There is no agenda and no format for this meeting. If you are not comfortable with unstructured events like this, please do not come - I do not want to be accused later of being "disorganized"! :-)
I have selected this Starbucks location because it gets extremely empty and quiet in there after office hours. It's just like having a private meeting room, except that it's free. Depending on the number of people who show up, we may gather around one table or we may break up into multiple groups.
When you arrive, look for me, and if you can't find me, call my cell phone, which I will send out to people who RSVP.
Getting There:
This location is just a few blocks from Michigan Avenue and The Loop. The best way to get there if you work downtown is to walk or cab it. The nearest L stop is the Red Line, one block away at Grand and State. Paid parking is available at 536 N State St, and 600 N Dearborn St. There are also some parking meters around the area. Those looking for free parking should drive west a few blocks to Wells or Orleans streets or further (good luck!).
